A day to celebrate the Super Mom

I remember my very first Mother's Day waking up to so many messages -much more than what I had received for my birthday! Maybe it was because after 15 years I finally had a baby after much difficulty. I really didn't know what to expect as my son was still a baby and didn't know anything what was going on but as kids get older it's important for them to understand the meaning of these special days in general. I can only speak from my limited experience first hand that once you have a child, you will never stop loving and worrying about them irrespective of age. One has to ask whether these special days are merely just for commercial purposes as shouldn't Mother's Day be everyday? There definitely is a degree of commercialisation but on the other hand parents (especially women) often are just taken for granted or not shown the appreciation they deserve. Yes some families recognise and celebrate their motherly figures regularly which is great but there are many mums that go by unappreciated. Some mums may only get a gift on Mother's Day (if they are lucky) whilst some mums don't receive anything, not even a phone call. If the commercialised days brings joy to a mum even if it's just for a day, then I'm all for it. The way we make people feel should always outweigh any monetary aspect. When you've had a tough day or going through some adversity and your mum or whoever else it maybe stepped in and supported you, don't wait for Mother's day to recognise her, live in the moment and thank her in an appropriate manner, not every day is promised to us. "Today is a gift, that's why we call it the present"
